Super Mario games have always managed to remain creative in their level design, beyond many other platforming games have. Not to mention the obvious, Mario has a TON of games to choose the best levels out of. It might be difficult to pick a favorite, however we’ve still managed to curate a list of the best levels in Mario games!

10. Soda Lake – Super Mario World

Soda Lake is an iconic level because of it being in Super Mario World, a game which didn’t have that big of an abundance of iconic levels. The reason why it’s so good is because it is so DIFFICULT, underwater levels are hell already and Soda Lake makes a statement.

9. 7-Castle – New Super Mario Bros. DS

The last level of World-7, Castle is a difficult beast to maneuver but it was absolutely gorgeous at the time. This level consists of many different obstacles to tackle, and the boss Lakithunder who is an absolutely amazing boss fight. 5. Impossible Pack – New Super Mario Bros. 2

Three of the hardest level packs in a Mario game, the Impossible Pack is named very aptly as it can frustrate the life out of you. In a way, this is the “Dark Souls” of Mario levels… It’s a gorgeous lava based level, with tons of chains and thwomps and some classic platforming to boot!

4. Bianco Hills – Super Mario Sunshine

Super Mario Sunshine’s tropical island had a bunch of different amazing levels, however Bianco Hills beat all the rest on our list. It has everything you’d want in a fun level, from a beautiful ocean-side town, to hills and pools of water. 2. New Donk City – Super Mario Odyssey

On the number two spot on this list is one of the most iconic Mario levels that has ever been created. New Donk City is Nintendo’s magnum opus, a level so full of life it turns Mario into an RPG game. This level is chock full of skyscraper based platforming, NPCs to uncover, and an open sandbox to run around in.

1. Bowser in the Sky – Super Mario 64

 Of course the number one spot would go to Super Mario 64! Bowser in the Sky is the largest level in the game, featuring one of the most gorgeous and intelligent designs along with one of the most iconic soundtracks in Super Mario history. It’s a level that is chock full of moments you’ve encountered in the entire game, giving you nostalgia that the game is nearing its end, along with being a tough challenge for you to overcome!
